As Advertised

It was one for the ages. A game that will be talked about and referred to for decades, perhaps forever.

It was classic Dodgers versus Yankees, just as it was supposed to be.

Just as advertised and hyped.

It took 11 innings to complete, ending with a dramatic one-out double to left field in the top of the 11th on an 0-2/90.4-MPH slider from Yankees right-hander Ian Hamilton by the undisputed current hottest Dodger on the team right now, 31-year-old outfielder Teoscar Hernández, to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in their eventual 2-1 win over their 11-time World Series opponents.

Hernández’s 11th-inning one-out double to left scored Dodgers placed runner Shohei Ohtani from second base and Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, who drew an eight-pitch walk, from first base to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. (SportsNet LA)

“I’ve been taking really good at-bats the last two, three weeks but I wasn’t getting the results, and finally the last two days, I’m getting good results,” Hernández told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson of his current blazing hot bat. “The most important for me is the winning, and just kinda continue to do the same thing and try to do my part to help the team.”

Although Teoscar was the offensive hero on Friday, 25-year-old Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto had his best start in a Dodgers uniform, allowing no runs and only two hits, while walking two and striking out seven in his 7.0-inning 12th start of the season, doing so on 106 pitches, of which 72 were strikes.

“Man, what a game. Wow,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said postgame. “Dodgers-Yankees, coming in here and watching Yoshinobu, his best outing as a Dodger. You could just see it. He felt it, he knew we needed it, and it brought out the best in him. I can’t say enough about his effort tonight.”

Yamamoto’s seventh strikeout on Friday was that of Yankees five-time All-Star slugger Giancarlo Stanton to end the sixth inning. (SportsNet LA)

OK, yes it was a good game. No, it was not, “…one for the ages. A game that will be talked about and referred to for decades, perhaps forever.” Yamamoto did not outpitch Cole or their newest ace, Gil. I will state that even during this season no one will talk about this particular game once the playoff races begin and especially during the playoffs. Even if we reach the World Series and face the Yankees, even then no one will more than casually mention this game because games played in June have zero influence upon games played in October. Every year there are great games between teams of equal promise, talent, and skill. This game is just that and no more, a great game in early June between two outstanding teams.

      Disagree.

This game was outstanding for the pitching on both sides and for the suspense in nearly every at bat as it edged closer to the 9th and then as the half innings rolled by. “Remembered for the ages” yeah, I kinda doubt that but it WILL be remembered by true Dodgers and true Yankees fans for many seasons.

“Every year there are great games between teams of equal promise, talent, and skill” – Yes, this is true BUT they aren’t the Dodgers and Yankees. These two teams share the greatest history of struggles against each other and this game is a pearl in the jeweled crown the Dodgers & Yankees have been building against each other for decades.
