- Fact: No Dodger has struck out more times this season than 31-year old outfielder Teoscar Hernández, who has done so 13 times through the Dodgers first seven games.
- Fact: No Dodger has hit more home runs this season than 31-year old outfielder Teoscar Hernández, who has done so four times through the Dodgers first seven games, tying him with future Hall of Famer Mookie Betts for the team lead.
- Fact: Teoscar Hernández struck out for the 13th time this season against San Francisco Giants right-hander Keaton Winn in his first at-bat in the bottom of the second inning in front of a very loud Dodger Stadium crowd of 49,044 on Monday night.
- Fact: Teoscar Hernández slugged his fourth home run of the season off of Giants right-hander Tyler Rogers in his third at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, sending it 431 feet into the Left Field Pavilion for a mammoth three-run home run to give his team a 6-1 lead in the Dodgers eventual 8-3 win over The Hated Ones on Monday night.
“I faced him once in the past,” Hernández told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson of Rogers postgame. “I was looking for something that I could just put the ball in play with men on first and third with one out. I was trying to get that run that was at third and I just put a good swing on it and the results were there.”
Yes they were – again.
“I think with Teoscar, it’s not right-handed versus left-handed. For him it’s just pitch selection and he’s hitting some breaking balls that are down below the zone, and taking some good swings,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the Cotui, Dominican Republic native postgame. “So, you know, it’s a stressful one through four, five in our lineup, and obviously, when you have him in the six hole, you know, there’s a lot of traffic, there always seems to be guys on base, and he has that propensity to get that big hit.”
And he did – again.
Continue striking out, Teoscar – as long as you also continue to homer.
Play Ball!
