Taylor-5 Dbacks-1

Under the category of: ‘Boy, did he need that,’ 33-year–old Dodgers utility infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor had a game for the books on Sunday afternoon at Camelback Ranch Glendale, driving five of the Dodgers 12 runs

Oh, sure, you can argue that it was only a “meaningless Spring Training” and doesn’t count in his real statistics or in the real MLB standings, but still, it became one of those ‘remember the time that’ moments that will be talked about for years.

All the Virginia Beach, VA native and fifth round draft pick in 2012 by the Seattle Mariners out of the University of Virginia did in his five-inning day at against the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks at Camelback Ranch Glendale, on Sunday was crush a grand slam home run to left field off of 24-year-old Dbacks right-handed pitching prospect Alec Baker in the bottom of the first inning, and hit an RBI single to center in the bottom of the fifth to drive in five of the Dodgers 12 runs on the day, while scoring twice.

But CT-3 wasn’t the only Dodger to have an incredible day. Dodgers now full-time shortstop and future Hall of Famer Mookie Betts went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, and fellow future Hall of Famer Freddie Freeman finished his six innings of Spring work going 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, and a RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth.

On the sixth pitch from Dbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt in the bottom of the first, Freeman sent it onto the berm in right field for a first inning two-run home run and the first two of his three RBIs on the day. (SportsNet LA)

On the other side of the ball, 25-year-old Dodgers right-hander Gavin Stone was nothing short of brilliant – agan. The hard-throwing Lake City, AR native and Dodgers fifth round draft pick in 2020 out of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway allowed no runs and only four hits, while walking none and striking out five in his 4.0 innings pitched to earn his third win of the Spring.

Stone improved his chances significantly to become the Dodgers fifth starter with yet another outstanding performance on Sunday afternoon. (SportsNet LA)

Well done, Boys!

Play Ball!
