The Dodgers have played 13 games thus far this Spring and own a 9-3-1 record, which has them tied with the Kansas City Royals for the best record in MLB’s Cactus League. Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy has appeared in seven of those 13 games and is 5-for-12 (.417), with two home runs and four RBIs.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that Muncy has been hit three times in his 16 plate appearances, which has caused him to miss five games … so far.
The Midland, TX native and fifth round draft pick in 2012 by the Oakland Athletics out of Baylor University was hit on his left hand by 26-year-old Texas Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford on February 28, for which he had to come out of the game. Fortunately, X-rays came back negative and he was able to return to action two days later.
He was hit for a second time on March 2, this time in the back, by 26-year-old Chicago Cubs right-hander Hayden Wesneski, but stayed in the game.
And then, with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning of Tuesday’s ugly 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles California Anaheim Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in front of a sold out Camelback Ranch crowd of 9,841, Muncy was hit on his right knee by 22-year-old Angels right-hander Victor Mederos, for which he again had to come out of the game.
That’s three HBPs in seven days.
As of this writing, there has been no update as to the severity of the injury (if any) to Muncy’s right knee, or if he will miss any playing time because of it.
But regardless, enough already.
Play Ball!
