Under the category of ‘Great News,’ it was reported on social media early Wednesday afternoon that the Dodgers had signed extremely popular catcher Will Smith to a 10-year / $140 million contract extension. The report was confirmed a short while later by the Dodgers.
Over his thus far six seasons with the Dodgers (including the two games in Seoul, South Korea earlier this week), the Louisville, KY native, who turns 28 tomorrow, owns a solid .263/.358/.484/.842 career slashline, with 91 home runs and 308 RBIs at the plate.
But it’s what Smith does behind the plate that could one day land him in the sacred Halls of Cooperstown.
Smith was drafted by the Dodgers in the first round of the 2016 MLB draft out of the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY.
Well done, Dodgers!
…and Happy Birthday, Will!
