On Monday morning, it was being widely reported that the Dodgers oldest and most hated division rivals, the San Francisco Giants, had re-signed 37-year-old longtime Dodger fan unfavorite Pablo Sandoval (AKA: The Grand Panda) to a Minor League contract that included an invitation to San Francisco’s Major League Spring Training camp.
But here’s the thing. Although the former 14-year MLB veteran owns an impressive .278/.330/.443/.773 career slashline, he slashed a mediocre .249/.299/.379/.678 in his 142 games and 430 at-bats against the Dodgers.
Among those 430 ABs against the Dodgers were 11 home runs and 55 RBI. However, they also included 75 strikeouts and 32 walks (eight intentional).
As such, even if Sandoval defies the odds and does somehow manage to make the Giants Opening Day 2024 active roster, barring an insanely ridiculously Spring, he will be of little threat – or difference maker – against arguably the best pitching staff in the NL West, the National League, and all of baseball.
