Go Big or Go Home

It is a deal that many (most) Dodgers fans had wanted and hoped for, but one that many (most) Dodgers fans didn’t think was possible or doable.

Done deal.

On Sunday evening, it was (very) widely reported on social media that Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman had pulled off one of the biggest deals of the off-season with the signing of 31-year-old free agent outfielder Teoscar Hernández:

“That bat in that lineup is phenomenal,” said MLB Network Radio‘s Steve Phillips. “This lineup is not quite Atlanta, but it’s getting closer.” (Remember those words, Steve).

Over his (thus far) eight MLB seasons, the Cotui, Dominican Republic native, who was signed as an amateur free agent by the Houston Astros in 2011, owns an impressive career slash line of .261/.316/.486/.802, with 161 doubles, 12 triples, 159 home runs, and 473 RBIs. He has also stolen 42 bases and is a two-time Silver Slugger and one-time All-Star.

During the 2023 season, Hernández slashed .258/.305/.435/.741, with 29 doubles, two triples, 26 home runs, 93 RBIs, and seven stolen bases with the Seattle Mariners.

It had been speculated that Hernández and his agent at Republik Sports were seeking a (very) high dollar/multi-year contract, which undoubtedly scared off a number of potential suitors. And though the complete details of his (reported) one-year/$23.5 million deal with the Dodgers have yet to be revealed, it undoubtedly includes a huge signing bonus, a significant amount of deferred money, and performance incentives – things at which Friedman is the absolute Master.

Stay tuned. There will undoubtedly be a lot more to come on this huge breaking story.

Play Ball!

What an offseason for the Dodgers! I had high hopes but wasn’t expecting anything like this. And if they go out and get a closer like Hader or Classe it might go down as the best offseason ever. Which doesn’t matter of course if they don’t go out and get it done on the field. But this very well might be the most well rounded Dodgers roster I’ve ever seen. I love this team.

I don’t think paying a billion dollars is going to buy a World Series. First of all you need a manager who knows what the hell he’s doing when it comes to the Playoffs. Dave has no clue. That’s for sure!
