by Ron Cervenka Although the Dodger weren’t in it, it’s hard to argue that the 2023 version of Major League Baseball’s World Series wasn’t entertaining, if for no other reason than extremely popular former Dodgers shortstop (ugh) Corey Seager and former Dodgers relievers Nathan Eovaldi and Josh Sborz were in it and played huge roles in the Texas Rangers’ four-games-to-one World Series win over the Arizona Diamondbacks who, of course, had eliminated the Dodgers from postseason play in the 2023 NLDS.
Although Eovaldi and Sborz both had a very good World Series, Seager had an exceptional one, winning the prestigious Willie Mays World Series Most Valuable Player Award – for the second time – joining Hall of Famers (a clue) Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson as the only other two-time winners of the highly coveted award.

With their remarkable (and dominant) World Series win, the Rangers became the first team in MLB history to finish 25+ games under .500 one year and then win the World Series the next, having finished the 2022 season with an ugly 68–94 (.420) record and the 2023 season going 90-72 (.556). The Rangers are also the first team in MLB/NBA/NHL history to win 11 road games in a single postseason.
“It’s unreal. I just can’t count my blessings enough to be part of this group,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said immediately after his team’s 5-0 Game-5 shutout of Arizona. “Ownership, front office, this group of determined men that were so resilient all year. This is unbelievable,” added the Rangers skipper.

As for Seager, he batted .318 with 21 hits, six home runs, 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored in his combined 17 2023 postseason games.
“What a group. To be able to accomplish that and have all these wins on the road, to never be able to do it, it’s just a hell of a group and I just couldn’t be more proud to be here,” the always humble 29-year-old Charlotte, NC native and Dodgers (ugh) first round draft pick in 2012 out of Northwest Cabarrus High School in Concord, NC said postgame.
That’s the good news.
The bad news it that’s it … no more baseball until March of next year.
If you are into counting, the Dodgers 2024 home opener is exactly 147 days from today – Thursday, November 2, 2023.

As you already know I was very happy that the Rangers beat the D-bags. I was very happy for Seager (why did the Dodgers ever let him get away?) and the rest of the former Dodgers on the Rangers. Also, no way did I think the 84 win 12th playoff seed D-bags were a World Champion team. The topper was that they lost all 3 home games in front of their (beat LA chanting) fans.
World Series Observations
1 Astros didn’t win
2 DBacks lost
3 Phillies lose
4 Padres didn’t make the playoffs
5 Seager wins Congrats to the Rangers. They were all in.
All things considered this was the best result for Dodger fans. But I was thinking last night about just how many gut punches we take as Dodger fans in October. Even when the World Series has nothing to do with the Dodgers we’re still taking gut punches. Seager winning MVP, Sborz getting the last out, Bochy winning another ring…UGH!
Even when we get to see our team win in October like we did in 2020 we still take punches from every other fan base about how it’s not real and all that bs. I love being a Dodger fan, I wouldn’t change it for the world and I know this will all make it worth it when they finally do get one done over a full 162 but this shit is torture man lol
