Fernando Valenzuela, fresh from having his number 34 retired by the Los Angeles Dodgers and throwing out the first pitch at the conclusion of the ceremony to his battery-mate Mike Scioscia, the pair will re-unite once again for a special signing at the Burbank Card Show at the Anaheim Convention Center on Saturday, Sept. 2.

The Memorabilia Network will be hosting Valenzuela and Scioscia for the first time together for a signing  at the North Hall of the Anaheim Convention Center (800 W. Katella Avenue).  Valenzuela will be signing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Scioscia will be there from noon to 1:30 p.m.

In addition to Valenzuela and Scioscia’s appearance, the Memorabilia Network has also arranged for Dodgers’ rookie outfield sensation James Outman for a signing the same day between 10:30 a.m. and noon.

The Dodgers celebrated Valenzuela’s great career this past weekend with ceremonies on Friday retiring his number “34” and unveiling the number among the Dodger greats on the left field club level among other greats as Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Duke Snider, Don Drysdale, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Pee Wee Reese, Don Sutton, Tommy Lasorda, Walt Alston and Jim Gilliam.  

Dodger fans who attended last Saturday night’s game received a Fernando bobblehead and on Sunday afternoon they received a replica of Fernando’s 1981 World Championship ring.

The Mexican born Valenzuela had a 17-year career in the majors with a 173-153 record and an ERA of 3.54 with 2,074 strikeouts.  He pitched for the Dodgers from 1980-90 and the 1981 season was when Fernandomania was born, when he earned the Cy Young Award and was National League Rookie of the Year in leading the Dodgers to the World Championship.

Scioscia was Valenzuela’s dependable receiver and played for the Dodgers from 1980-1992.  He would go on to be a great manager for the Angels from 2000-2018.
