When rumors began flying that the Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles were among the teams that the Anaheim Angels of Anaheim were considering trading superstar designated hitter/pitcher Shohei Ohtani to, there were a lot of very excited Dodgers fans. I mean, how could we not be at the mere thought of the Babe Ruth of our generation wearing Dodger Blue, right?
But alas, on Wednesday afternoon, a loud sigh could be heard echoing throughout the streets of Los Angeles when MLB Trade Rumors posted on Twitter (now X.com) that the Angels had reportedly taken Ohtani off the trade market.
But here’s the thing. Even with the future Hall of Famer and future Hall of Famer Mike Trout on their roster, the Angels, as of this writing, are in third place in the American League West a full six games behind the division-leading Texas Rangers and four games behind the second-place Houston Astros.
Meaning absolutely no disrespect whatsoever to the Angels or to their very loyal fans (and there are many), even with 59 regular-season games yet to be played, the Angels are probably not going to win the division. That said (and again, as of this writing), they currently hold the AL West Wild Card to make it into the 2023 postseason, so there’s that.
Stay tuned…
