Throughout our respective lives and regardless our respective age, we have all heard the phrase “Just like they wrote it up” hundreds, if not thousands of time.
On Thursday evening, that popular phrase was absolutely positively uttered (ad nauseam) for the very reason that it was created for when, in front of a Busch Stadium crowd of 36,982 in St. Louis, MI and millions more watching on television, 33-year-old Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman not only slugged his milestone 300th career home run, but it was a grand slam home run to boot. I mean, seriously, what could possibly be better than that, right?
Well, there is one thing – the Dodgers could have won the game instead of having their (lunches) handed to then in an inexcusable 16-8 loss to the red birds.
“I wish you’d do these things and win, but it’s still pretty cool,” Freeman told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson after the game. “I don’t really like reminiscing on anything given that we got a game tomorrow and it doesn’t really matter, but 300 home runs is quite a bit of home runs, so, I’ll call my dad tonight and we’ll talk about it and just enjoy it for tonight and then tomorrow, we’ll worry about tomorrow’s game. But tonight was kinda cool.”
Kinda cool indeed. So cool, in fact, that despite their ugly loss, Freeman and his teammates celebrated with a postgame champagne toast.
