During his postgame interview following his team’s 10-1 pounding of the Arizona Diamondbacks in front of a Dodger Stadium crowd of 48,886 on Saturday night, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was asked if outfielder Trayce Thompson would be in his starting line-up tomorrow (Sunday) – this after the 32-year-old Los Angeles, CA native and second-round draft pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2009 out of Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA slugged three home runs on Saturday night, including two off of longtime Dodgers nemesis Madison Bumgarner – the first of which was a first-inning grand slam.
“I’ve developed a new three-homer rule. So, if you hit three home runs, you play the next day. So, he’ll be in there tomorrow,” the Dodgers skipper said with a wry grin.

When informed of his manager’s new rule, an extremely humble Thompson smiled and said: “I like that rule.”
In an interesting twist of fate, in 2020, when Thompson was briefly with the Diamondbacks, he used to take batting practice off of Bumgarner and, in fact, was his locker mate and good friend.
“I never had much success against him,” Thompson admitted.
You know what they say about paybacks.

Super happy for Trayce. I hope he can keep it going and become a productive piece of the team. Certainly off to a great start.
Vargas is a walk machine. Perhaps the Dodgers should have had KT3 just watch pitches his first 5 games at Spring Training.
@Dodgers Have a night, Trayce Thompson. That grand slam was a sight to see, but to have him go yard TWO more times (8 runs total)…man, that was superhuman. Good for him!
