Dodgers Announce 2023 Spring Training Non-Roster Invitees

With Dodgers pitchers and catchers scheduled to report to Camelback Ranch for Spring Training in less than two weeks, February 16th, to be exact, the Dodgers on Friday released their list of non-roster invitees (NRIs).

The list currently includes 16 pitchers, three catchers, two infielders, and six outfielders, including 33-year-old/13-year MLB veteran outfielder Jason Heyward.

Here is the list of Dodgers NRIs as of Friday afternoon:

But believe it or not, Heyward will not be the oldest NRI in the Dodgers Spring Training clubhouse. That honor belongs to James Jones who, although he appeared in 125 games as an outfielder in 2014 and 2015 with the Seattle Mariners, also appeared in 136 games as a left-handed pitcher. Jones celebrated his 34th birthday this past September 24th. I mean, how can you not pull for this guy to make the team, right?

Of Jones’ 136 pitching appearances with the Seattle Mariners in 2014 and 2015, 78 were starts. The 34-year-old Brooklyn, NY native, who was drafted by Seattle in the fourth round in 2009 out of Long Island University Brooklyn, will attempt to resurrect his pitching career with the Dodgers this Spring. But as we all know, with a plethora of the top minor leaguers in the game also in camp as NRIs, guys like Jones, 34-year-old former and returning Dodgers left-hander Adam Kolarek, soon-to-be 34-year old catcher David Freitas, and 33-year-old right-hander Matt Andriese definitely have their work cut out for them if they hope to make the Dodgers Opening Day 26-man roster.

Speaking of Dodgers Opening Day, which is on Thursday, March 30, 2023 against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium, it is 54 days from today.

FIFTY-FOUR DAYS!

Play Ball!

Some names (besides Heyward and Bobby Miller) that catch my attention:

Of course, Bobby Miller who has the talent to be an ace one day; could make his ML debut this season for the Dodgers.

Landon Knack who has 4 quality ML pitches, and outstanding command. Would not surprise me to see him in the Dodgers bullpen this season.

Hunter Feduccia perform well in the spring and he could be the third catcher this season.

If you go to Camelback Ranch this spring, look for Johnny DeLuca in the outfield. He’s not an NRI, already on the 40-man roster, but this is a very talented outfielder who we may be the surprise of spring training.
