The 2023 Hot Stove is Officially Lit

Barring any unforeseen developments, it appears that the Houston Astros are the legitimate 2022 Champions of Baseball under the leadership of 73-year-old / three-year Astros manager and 25-year MLB manager (and former Dodger) Dusty Baker, to whom we extend a hearty and well-deserved congratulation.

With the 2022 World Series now in the books, the 2023 Hot Stove has officially been lit.

The 2023 Hot Stove is now lit.

As most fans know, the Dodgers have 21 free agents on their current 40-man roster heading into the offseason:

Teams have until November 10 to sign their respective free agents. If they do not, free agents can then negotiate and sign with other teams.

The Dodgers also have 12 arbitration-eligible players currently on their roster:

Needless to say, Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman is about to become a very busy man.

Only 144 days until Opening Day.

Some great bargains in arbitration: Almonte, Gonsolin, Ferguson, Graterol, May, Nelson (if healthy), Phillips, and Urias. By now, Friedman should know the likelihood of Kershaw returning, whether Trea Turner’s salary expectations are within the team’s budget planning, which options will be picked-up (or not), and those players who will not be offered 2023 contracts.

I think the Dodgers would be better off with Trea Turner at SS even if we have to release Belly to do it.

    • jalex says:

      Belli NEEDS to go.
maybe a change of scenery will do him some good, maybe it wont, but he has proven that his attitude is a hindrance in this system.
with a ROY in one hand and a MVP in the other, he simply can’t hold a bat.

  3. Jesse Pearce says:

    Agreed!

I was reading the Athletic.. A writer was suggesting that the Dodgers trade almost every prospect we have for Ohtani. I almost had to be taken to the emergency room. What a knuckle brain.

This looks and sounds like a marketing video produced by Turner’s agent. I think TT is worth the money and years it will take to sign him. The Dodgers do not have a high level shortstop who has played above Lo A ball. Dump Bellinger, and if necessary decline the team option on JT. TT is a must sign for Dodgers IMO.

  6. Ron Cervenka says:

I had not seen it but it is VERY well done.

As you know, I have been saying all along (ad nauseum) that I did not believe that Trea would be a Dodger in 2023. That said, I DO believe that Friedman will make him an offer, but I do not think that it will meet his (or his agent’s) length expectations, which he will definitely get elsewhere.

It’s been fun, Trea. Godspeed to you!

  7. Stevenbendodger says:

For me. If we can sign Swanson for Freddie type of deal we would be just fine. Less yrs way less money.

    • Jesse Pearce says:

Unless a team offers Swanson significantly more money, I don’t see him leaving Atlanta. Different than Freddie who was a SoCal product, Swanson is Georgia boy.

  8. Stevenbendodger says:

Will the Braves go more than 20 mil per? Have they ever?
