As Dodgers fans continue their painful countdown to Opening Day 2023, they – and every other non-Houston Astros fan on the planet – took a big hit on Thursday night when the Astros took a three-games-to-two lead in the 2022 World Series with their 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park behind yet another stellar (one-run, one-hit, five-inning) pitching performance by Astros nine-time All-Star right-hander Justin Verlander.
That’s the good news.
The bad news, at least for those aforementioned non-Houston Astros fans, is that the best-of-seven series now returns to Minute Maid Park in downtown Houston for Game-6 and (if necessary) Game-7, where the Phillies must win both games to be crowned MLB’s 2022 World Series Champions – a difficult, if not impossible, task at best.
Then again, the Phillies have had a knack for pulling the proverbial rabbit out of their respective hats on more than one occasion this season, so there’s that.
By the way, it’s 145 days until Opening Day, in case you aren’t counting.
Play Ball!
* * * * * *
I am DEFINITELY counting down to Opening Day. Lets go Dodgers!
Will the Phillies have another come back in them and become champions or will they play like the 87 win team they are who had the 11th best record of the 12 qualifying Playoff teams?
I have not seen 1 pitch of the WS in protest against the playoffs which are now a joke in my opinion.
Additionally there are no worse fans in the world than Phillie fans.
I can’t root for them.
