The Dodgers and Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) will partner with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Brotherhood Crusade, UCLA Health, and local bottler, Reyes Coca-Cola for two very special Thanksgiving community events this week.
The first event will take place on Wednesday, November 16 as the Dodgers and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) serve Thanksgiving meals to individuals experiencing homelessness. Dodger players, Alex Vesia and Yency Almonte, and Dodger alumni and broadcaster, Orel Hershiser, will join Dr. Curley L. Bonds, Chief Medical Officer of the LACDMH at St. Joseph Center’s Bread and Roses Cafe in Venice. Hygiene kits and co-branded blankets will also be distributed to those in attendance.
As has been customary, for more than 18 years, the Los Angeles Dodgers have provided turkeys to the local community during the holiday season. This year, the Dodgers donated a total of $30,000 to six local charities that will provide turkeys and trimmings to Angelenos in need.
On Friday, November 18, LADF in partnership with Brotherhood Crusade and Acts Inspired by Mookie (AIM), will host a Thanksgiving Grab and Go drive-thru at Algin Sutton Recreation Center in South Los Angeles, home to Dodgers Dreamfields #1 and #50. Mookie and Brianna Betts will join volunteers in distributing groceries for Thanksgiving meals including 1,000 turkeys, fixings, and dessert. Each family will also receive a kit with PPE supplies from UCLA Health, the Official health partner of the Dodgers. The event is open to the public and is first come first serve. All items will be free of charge while supplies last. A portion of the funds for this event come from a larger LADF grant of $126,000 to support Brotherhood Crusade and their food insecurity efforts as part of their 50 Feeds LA campaign. Together with Betts and AIM, LADF will support Brotherhood Crusade to provide more than 400,000 meals over the course of 2022 and 2023.
