Talking the Talk and Walking the Walk

“You talk the talk … but can you walk the walk?”

– Adam Baldwin in Stanley Kubrick’s 1987 Academy Award-nominated film ‘Full Metal Jacket.’

Unfortunately for 34-year-old Dodgers closer Craig Kimbrel, who is having one of – if not the – worst seasons of his 13-year MLB career, he ‘walked the walk’ on Tuesday night against the National League West second-place San Diego Padres at Petco Park, when he walked three batters (one intentionally), including the ‘walk-off-walk’ winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning in the Dodgers 4-3 loss to the Friars.

The Walk(s):

The Talk:

“I was just yanking the ball. Frustrated. That’s all I can say. I think I’ve got some good pitching to do in the next couple days to prove that. I think … I know I can. I don’t think I can. I know I can. I just gotta do it.” – Craig Kimbrel

“Frustrated.”
(Jon SooHoo)

“I thought that [Manny] Machado at-bat, it was exactly where [his stuff] needed to be, and it was a big spot where he needed a punchout against a very good ballplayer. I know he’s frustrated, but we have to keep going.” – Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Kimbrel is now 6-7 on the season with a 4.02 ERA. He has blown five of his 27 save opportunities this season.

All of this said, Kimbrel has never shied away from the media over his struggles this season and has always owned up to them … always.

Play Ball!

  1. At this point you just can’t trust Kimbrel with a 1 or 2 run lead. The Dodgers have 110-112 wins IF he was not available this season.
    It’s open for debate as to whether he makes the play-off roster. Just too freakin’ volatile! There isn’t enough Maalox or Tums for that.

  2. OhioDodger says:

    Dodgers need to let Kimblow walk. And Gallo can also take a hike.
