When Dodgers left-hander Andrew Heaney gave up a solo home run to Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames – the second batter he faced at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night – there probably wasn’t a Dodgers fan out there who didn’t immediately think “Oh great … here we go again,” recalling the Andrew Heaney who had given up four (now five) home runs in his (to that point) combined 36.1 innings pitched this season.
But instead of that Andrew Heaney, the Andrew Heaney who was a first-round draft pick in 2012 by the Miami Marlins out of Oklahoma State University and signed by the Dodgers as a free agent on November 10, 2021 showed up.
All the Oklahoma City, OK native did was allow only one additional run on four total hits, while walking only one and striking out 10 over his 6.0 innings pitched in the Dodgers eventual 12-6 rout of the Brewers to take two of three in the short series.
“Today I thought he was fantastic, certainly considering the last outing versus these guys,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters postgame. “To bounce back, to get through six innings, 10 strikeouts again, he had 10 his last outing in Milwaukee.”
In that last outing only six days earlier, Heaney allowed five runs (three earned) on three home runs; hence that “Oh great … here we go again“ thing.
But it didn’t happen again.
Instead, Heaney’s teammates gave he and Messrs. Caleb Ferguson, Brusdar Graterol, and (wait for it…) Hanser Alberto 12 runs of support on the night.
“He’s got so much deception, and that fastball seems to, like, rise,” said Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes, who slugged his sixth home run of the season on Wednesday night; a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth inning. “It’s kind of a unique fastball. And he’s throwing his slider with a lot of confidence, getting them off the fastball speed.”
“It’s feeling better, trying to get deeper into games, be a bit more pitch efficient,” Heaney said. “Just got to stay away from a couple of mistakes that I’ve made the last two outings that have cost me big time with the home run balls.”
That, he did.
Play Ball!

Heaney has been great and we are certainly going to need him to pitch this way in October.
The Dodgers have been hot for such a long time. It’s great to watch and I love the relentless offense numbers they been putting up. They are 41-9 .820 since June 28th and 49-14 .778 since the Giants swept them in a 3 game series in San Francisco June 10th to 12th.
Who? Hahaha!
@Dodgers Finally!
