Dodgers fans will undoubtedly remember their team’s exciting 4-3 win over the National League East first-place New York Mets at Citi Field on Tuesday night as the game in which (very) hot-hitting Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux went 2-for-4 with three RBI, and understandably so. But hidden (well) under the radar of the Dodgers 90th win of the season was a routine groundout by Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy that made the win possible.
With no outs in the top of the seventh inning, Dodgers All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman legged out a leadoff double to Mets left fielder Mark Canha. Muncy, the next Dodgers batter and on an 0-2 count, grounded out to Mets first baseman and longtime Dodgers nemesis Pete Alonso, on which Freeman took third base on the proverbial ‘productive out.’
Mets left-hander Joely Rodriguez then intentionally walked Dodgers pinch-hitting designated hitter Will Smith, undoubtedly in hopes of setting up a double play. This was followed by Lux’s single to Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo, on which Freeman easily scored from third base.
Here’s how it unfolded in the MLB.com box score:
Under the radar indeed.
Play Ball!

YES!!!
the Dodgers have the lowest ground ball rate in all of baseball (or did, the last time i checked) while that leads to a lot of success it also fails to move runners far too often. we could end up with nine players each getting 100 Ks before the season ends and we currently only have 8 guys with enough PA to qualify for awards.
