Trade deadline, schmade deadline – the Dodgers are about to acquire arguably one of the best starting pitchers in the game today … and it will cost them absolutely nothing – in money or coveted top prospects.
On Thursday afternoon, 24-year-old Dodgers right-hander Dustin May made his second rehab start with the team’s Triple-A affiliate Oklahoma City Dodgers following his May 11, 2021 Tommy John surgery.
In a word (two, actually), it went exceptionally well.
The Justin, TX native and Dodgers third-round draft pick in 2016 out of Northwest High School in Justin pitched 3.0 scoreless innings against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Astros) on Thursday evening, allowing no runs on two hits, with no walks and six strikeouts. He made 46 total pitches, of which 32 were strikes. And even though the 6′-6″ / 180-pound right-hander allowed a leadoff triple to open the game, he struck out two of the next three batters he faced. The only other hit allowed by May was a one out single in the third inning, but he ended up striking out the side to end his day’s work.
May is expected to make at least two more rehab starts with OKC, but barring a setback, he could conceivably return to the Dodgers starting rotation sometime around August 21(-ish).
Godspeed to you, @d_maydabeast!

That is great news.
Dodgers loosing out to the Mariners on Castillo may signal Dodgers not interested in giving up top prospects in any deal.We Shall See.
Btw we really don’t need Starting pitching. We need relief help.
he better get here quick. now that we dont have White or Kershaw there is a sudden and unnecessary hole in the rotation!
