Evan Phillips – The Dodgers Perfect Middle Reliever

The Dodgers are blessed to have the perfect middle reliever … literally.

Twenty-seven-year-old right-hander Evan Phillips, has been Dodgers manager Dave Roberts‘ go-to-guy for middle (long or short) relief through the first half of the 2022 season.

All the Salisbury, MD native and 17th-round draft pick in 2015 by the Atlanta Braves out of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington has done since being selected off waivers by the Dodgers from the Tampa Bay Rays on August 16, 2021 is post a 3-4 record with an alien-like 2.09 ERA in his 39 relief appearance (43.0 innings pitched) in Dodger Blue.

But wait … there’s more!

Over his last 15 appearances (14.2 innings pitched) out of the Dodgers bullpen this season, the 6′-2″ / 215-pound hard-throwing right-hander has not allowed an earned run, for a 0.00 ERA.

You can’t be any more perfect than that.

Phillips did not allow a run and only one hit (a single), with no walks and three strikeouts in his 1.1 innings of work in the Dodgers 5-2 win over the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night to earn his team-leading 10th hold. He also lowered his ERA to 1.65 – best among all Dodgers relievers.
