When you walk into the Dodgers clubhouse you immediately notice two things:
- There is a tremendous air of confidence in the room.
- It’s confidence, not arrogance from the best team in the National League with their 64-30 record and second-best team in all of baseball behind only the 66-31 New York Yankees.
“This is as close a group as I’ve been around, and that says a lot because we’ve had some really talented and close ballclubs,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said before his team’s 7-4 win over the NL West third-place San Francisco Giants on Sunday to sweep the four-game series.
That’s some pretty high praise from the guy who also skippered the 2020 World Series Champion Dodgers team.
“I think we’re playing really well,” echoed Dodgers future Hall of Fame left-hander Clayton Kershaw; this despite of his rare un-Kershaw-like performance on Sunday. “Obviously the way that you hit, the way that you pitch, you’re going to have bad days every once in a while. But I think for the most part, we just have good players. And that’s what’s showing right now.”
With their series sweep of the Giants at Dodger Stadium this past weekend, the Dodgers extended their current winning streak to a season-high 12 games and now enjoy an 11.5-game lead over the NL West Second-place San Diego Padres.
Following their dominating win over the Giants on Sunday, several Dodgers players told members of the media that it was a team win – i.e., everyone in the lineup contributed, with eight of the nine position players having at least one hit and four with two hits, and the five relievers behind Kershaw allowing no runs and only two hits.
“We played great today, our whole team,” Kershaw said. “Bullpen looked great, they didn’t give up any runs at all for that whole time, offense is unbelievable today, really the whole series.”
Anyone who has spent any time around the Dodgers ace knows that he is as humble of a human being as you will find on the planet – and confident.
Confident, not arrogant.
