During Wednesday night’s 8-4 Dodgers win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, soon-to-be (on July 13) 27-year-old Dodgers center fielder Cody Bellinger had what was arguably his best at-bat of the season – and it wasn’t his 431-foot solo home run to center field to lead off the eighth inning to give the Dodgers their eighth and final run of the night.
No, that best at-bat (or technically ‘plate appearance’) of the season for the Scottsdale, AZ native and Dodgers fourth-round draft pick in 2013 out of Hamilton High School in Chandler, AZ occurred it the top of the second inning. It was a 13-pitch walk off of 27-year-old Rockies right-hander Germán Márquez with one out.
How so, you ask?
Because it eventually led to a three-run inning to make it a then 4-0 ball game which, as noted, ended up being an 8-4 Dodgers win.
“I thought Cody’s at-bat really flipped the game in our favor in the sense of stressing Márquez right there,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said postgame of Bellinger’s impressive – and key – walk.
Well done, Belli!
