The Next Most Important Series of the Season

A little over a week ago, we ran an article here on ThinkBlueLA.com entitled The Most Important Series of the Season? At the time, that three-game series against the division-rival San Diego Padres was indeed the most important series of the new 2022 season for the Dodgers, if for no other reason than it would determine if the Dodgers would remain in first place in the National League West, or quite possibly drop to fourth place in the division.

The Dodgers took two of three from San Diego at Petco Park and remain the division leaders.

…for now.

Lo and behold, here comes the next ‘most important series of the new 2022 season‘ for the Dodgers, even if only a brief two games. It is a two-game series against the Dodgers’ longtime and most hated division rivals – the San Francisco Giants – at Dodger Stadium.

A sweep of this brief two-game series would result in the Dodgers being 2.5 games ahead of ‘The Hated Ones’ in the NL West. Of course, a two-game sweep by San Francisco would put the Dodgers an unacceptable 1.5 games behind them.

But there is another horse in this race – the San Diego Padres – who will begin action on Tuesday in second place in the NL West, mere percentage points behind the Dodgers – .015 to be exact.

Needless to say, anything less than a sweep by the Dodgers over the Giants could result in the Dodgers waking up in third place in the division come Thursday morning.

Still think “It’s still early,” as so many like to say?
