Nothing Fishy About Trout Swimming Past Salmon

Two things:

  1. Yes, this is a Dodgers-based blog site, but this Anaheim (not Los Angeles) Angels of Anaheim story is rather significant;
  2. I fully realize that the media has beaten the Mike Trout/Tim Salmonfish‘ thing to death – ad nauseam – but this is rather significant.

On Monday night, Angels center fielder Mike Trout, often referred to as the Babe Ruth of our generation, passed former Angels right fielder Tim Salmon for the most home runs hit at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, formerly Edison International Field of Anaheim, formerly The Big-A (Do you see an identity issue here?).

Trout passed Salmon’s mark of 160 home runs hit at Angel Stadium in the bottom of the sixth inning with a 351-foot shot down the left-field line for his seventh home run of the season and 317th of his 12-year MLB career.

“It’s special,” Trout said postgame. “I didn’t know it until I saw it on the scoreboard, but any time you pass Salmon, it’s a big deal.”

Worthy of note, Angels right-handed pitcher/Designated Hitter (no, really) Shohei Ohtani – the other Babe Ruth of our generation – hit two home runs on Monday night (numbers five and sixth on the season), including his first career grand slam in the seventh inning of the Angels eventual 11-3 rout of the Tampa Bay Rays.

With Monday night’s win, the Angels are now 20-11 on the season and currently in first place in the AL West, one game up on the 18-11 Houston Astros.

…and you gotta love that.
