It is a phrase that gets tossed around often in the game of baseball – “Nice AB” (at-bat). And even though we may hear it a lot, there is no real comprehensive definition of what constitutes a “Nice AB,” although savvy baseball fans know one when they see one.
During the NL West first-place Dodgers’ exciting 3-1 win (and four-game sweep) over the NL West fourth-place Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Sunday afternoon, Dodgers catcher (designated hitter in this case) Will Smith had a “Nice AB,” – a great at-bat, actually.
The 27-year-old Louisville, KY native and Dodgers first-round draft pick in 2016 out of the University of Louisville saw 11 pitches from 29-year-old D-backs’ right-hander Zach Davies before hitting the 12th pitch of the at-bat (almost) into the pool at the popular domed stadium.

“I spoiled some good pitches he made and finally got one up over (the plate) and I put a good swing on it,” Smith told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson postgame. “It felt good. I’ll take the hit, take the RBI and all that.”

“Nice AB”, Will.

Memories of the Alex Cora epic AB. Glad he capped it off with a HR. 10 pitch ABs are rare, but, don’t stand out unless they end in run or rbi. Good job Willy.
