Ask any Major Leaguer, and they will tell you that Spring Training games are not about results; they are about reps. According to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, All-Star first baseman/second baseman/third baseman Max Muncy will get his first reps of the Spring on Monday, when the ‘visiting’ Dodgers take on the ‘home’ Chicago White Sox at Camelback Ranch Glendale, the Spring Training home of both teams.
“I think for [Monday] we’ll see Max Muncy, Freddie (Freeman) on Tuesday, and then Mookie (Betts) on Wednesday. It’s all starting to come together,” Roberts told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson following Sunday’s seven-inning 2-2 Spring Training tie with the Chicago Cubs at Camelback Ranch.
As Dodger fans know, Muncy is recovering from off-season surgery for a torn UCL in his left elbow. The 31-year-old Midland, TX native and two-time All-Star is expected to see most of his action this season at second base, with newcomer and future Hall of Famer Freddie Freeman expected to get the bulk of the action at first base. Muncy can also fill in for Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner when he needs an occasional blow. He could also be used as the Dodgers Designated Hitter, which was recently approved for the National League in the new MLB/MLB Players Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Welcome back Mad Max!

This is great news that Muncy is ready for some Cactus League action. Watching Edwin Ríos throw from third base, I think Muncy’s primary position will be second base, backing up Freeman at first base, and used as a DH when not playing defensively.
