Blake Treinen Gets It

You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who does not like former Dodgers right-hander Blake Treinen. You’d be even harder pressed to do so after USA Today‘s Bob Nightengale posted this on Twitter on Tuesday:

Everybody likes Blake Treinen.

Nightengale’s tweet prompted this reply from beloved Dodgers Spanish broadcaster Pepe Yñiguez:

Heck, even The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, with his knack for occasionally rubbing people the wrong way, gets it:

“Good to hear the latest deadline included another lifeline, and that the baseball owners and players will talk again Thursday morning,” writes Rosenthal. “As ridiculous as their dispute is, it would reach a new level of embarrassment if the season was compromised by the inability of the parties to figure out what to do with the international draft and direct draft-pick compensation, two issues most fans probably never imagined could take down the sport.

“Yet, here we are, the parties forever trapped in their bubbles, seemingly unable to recognize they’re about to drive the game to the abyss,” he adds. “I will repeat, one last time: Not a single game should be lost, especially not over matters that initially appeared to be secondary concerns. And while the owners are mostly to blame for initiating the lockout and pulling one stunt after another in negotiations, the union had a chance Wednesday to accelerate the endgame. Instead, it chose to continue the fight.”

Rosenthal is, of course, referring to the fact that MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced on Wednesday night that because a new Collective Bargaining Agreement has not been reached, he is canceling (at least) two additional series to begin the 2022 regular season, which he now says will begin on April 14.

And then there’s former Dodgers right-hander Max Scherzer, who late Wednesday night posted this on Twitter:

The point here and at risk of beating this dead horse even further into the ground is that everyone has had enough of the childish back-and-forth bickering between Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association. And the longer it continues, the greater the number of fans who will say ‘enough!‘ and will turn their backs on the greatest game on the planet … forever.

Both Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association are equally to blame here.

FIX IT!!!
