Believe it or not, there once was a time when you could buy a Dodger Dog at Dodger Stadium for about a buck.
No, really.
But alas, and as they say, ‘All good things must come to an end.‘
When the Dodgers played their final game at Dodger Stadium on October 21, 2021, against the Atlanta Braves in Game-5 of the 2021 NLCS, a Dodger Dog cost $6.75; not all that bad in the grand scheme of things.
But that grand scheme is about to change … significantly.
This from Reuters writers Naveen Thukral and Gavin Maguire on Tuesday:
“Escalating tensions between global crop heavyweights Russia and Ukraine are likely to force wheat, corn and sunflower oil buyers to seek alternative shipments, driving up world food prices already near multi-year highs, analysts and traders said.
“With the two countries accounting for around 29% of global wheat exports, 19% of world corn supplies, and 80% of world sunflower oil exports, traders worried that any military engagement could impact crop movement and trigger a mass scramble by importers to replace supplies from the Black Sea region.”
Whereas the hot dogs themselves are produced locally, a good percentage of the grains used to make the buns come from the most dangerous region on the planet right now, with things getting worse by the second.
Make no mistake about it, with gasoline prices at their highest in our nation’s history (also getting worse by the second), and with ticket prices very likely to go up when (if) the current MLB lockout ends and a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is in place, Dodgers fans will be paying significantly more to enjoy our National Pastime.
…and a Dodger Dog.
Play Ball!
