MLB’s Remaining Unsigned Free Agents

As expected, due to the ongoing Major League Baseball lockout (and as of this writing), there are still 282 unsigned MLB free agents – an enormous number which probably will not change much until a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached between MLB and the MLB Players Association.

Even at 33 years of age, future Hall of Fame left-hander Clayton Kershaw is expected to land a lucrative – and lengthy – free agent contract somewhere. (Photo credit – Ron Cervenka)

Although this is a very fluid situation that can change quickly and often times without notice, here are the remaining 282 free agents (again, as of this writing) per MLB.com. Players are grouped by position using their most-played position in 2021 and ranked using FanGraphs’ Wins Above Replacement (WAR) across the 2020-’21 seasons. Each player’s 2022 seasonal age is included within the parentheses:

  1. Jesse Pearce says:

Overwhelming percentage of these players will be putting pressure on the Players Association to get back to the bargaining table.

  2. Stevebendodger says:

A couple of guys stand out.
    Solano for infield.
    Rosario for outfield.
Kershaw if healthy a 4.8 war?
Would we trade Lux and a pitching prospect for Castillo. Or just prospects for Sonnie Gray ?
Need a SP and some infield help.

    • Jesse Pearce says:

Good options. Solano may be an expense Dodgers unwilling to pay after re-signing Taylor — unless they are counting on Taylor to now be a regular at second base, or LF/CF. Rosario was awesome in post season, but I don’t see the Dodgers pursuing him unless they believe Edwin Rios can no longer throw (shoulder surgery) well enough to play LF on occasion. Definitely Kershaw, even if he can only make 20 starts a season.
