On Saturday morning, the Dodgers announced (via Twitter) that single game tickets for all 2022 Dodgers Spring Training games at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, AZ were now on sale, with the sale ending at 11 p.m. PST on Monday night, December 20, 2021. And if early reports are accurate (and there is no reason to believe that they are not), tickets are going very fast.
That’s the good (great) news.
The not-so-good (bad) news is that on Sunday night, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Chief Medical Advisor to the President, reported that the COVID-19 Omicron variant ‘…is going to take over’ this winter, and warned Americans that they should brace for ‘…a tough few weeks to months.’
“[Y]ou have some regions that start off with a few percent of the isolates that are positive, now going up to 30%, 40%, and some places 50%,” Fauci said on Sunday.
Bad news indeed.
As baseball and all sports fans know, an increasing number of professional athletes have tested positive for COVID-19 and, as such, have been placed in quarantine. In fact, an increasing number of professional sporting events have already been canceled, with many more expected to soon follow suit. In other words, there is an increasing possibility that there may not even be a 2022 MLB Spring Training; at least one that fans will be allowed to attend – MLB lockout notwithstanding.
Please don’t shoot the messenger.
Play Ball!
…I hope
