At a time when there isn’t much good baseball news to report, there is some. On Wednesday afternoon, this showed up on Twitter:
If the name Ian Walsh doesn’t ring a bell for you, it is completely understandable. The Winston-Salem, NC native never pitched in the major leagues … or the minor leagues. But he did pitch for Denison University in Granville, OH, and for the Sonoma Stompers of the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs, an Independent League based in Northern California.
However – and this is a huge however – he has been a pitching coach at Combine Academy in Charlotte, NC since 2019 and previously as a trainer for Driveline Baseball in Seattle, WA. As many baseball fans know, Driveline is considered an industry leader in the scientific approach to player development.
As noted, Walsh played his college ball at Denison University, a NCAA Division-3 program. He graduated in 2016 with a B.A. in Economics, and after his brief stint in Indy ball in 2017, he began working at Driveline Baseball, where he helped train pitchers from the high school to the major league levels.
Welcome to the Dodgers family, Ian!
Play Ball!
