To say that 33-year-old Dodgers outfielder AJ Pollock has had a painful 2021 season might be a bit of an understatement.
Since Opening Day on April 1, the Hebron, CT native and first-round draft pick in 2009 by the Arizona Diamondbacks out of Notre Dame who was signed by the Dodgers as a free agent on January 26, 2019, has spent a total of 33 days on the Dodgers Injured List, most recently from September 5 to September 22 for a Grade 2 hamstring strain suffered on September 4. Earlier in the season, the 10-year MLB veteran outfielder missed 18 games from May 15 to June 3 for a left hamstring strain.
As such, when Pollock was hit by a pitch on his left hand by Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Taylor Widener in the top of the eighth inning of the Dodgers’ eventual 3-0 shutout win over his former team on Sunday afternoon, there were some very anxious moments. But after shaking it off (as they say), Pollock took first base, seemingly no worse for wear.
After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was asked how his veteran outfielder and clubhouse leader was doing, with only six games remaining in the 2021 regular season.
“He’s ok. It got him on that middle knuckle,” Roberts said. “I think it grazed him, I don’t think it got him too good. So I expect him to be in there on Tuesday. We dodged a bullet right there, and AJ just continues to take good at-bats, so we gotta keep him on the field.”
Although the Dodgers took two of three from the NL West last-place D-backs, the Giants also won on Sunday afternoon to maintain their 2.0-game lead over the Dodgers – again, with only six games remaining in the regular season.
Play Ball!

Between getting hit in the eye when the ball kicked off his bat, and plunked on the hand…he had me worried yesterday. We need his bat until the rest of the team warms up again.
The dodgers are habitually thrown at and have sustained HBP injuries to key players this year , especially to seager.
Meanwhile whether guided by a gutless wimp of a manager there is no protection of the players by retaliation
It was great to see Jansen knock a guy down the other night. How we miss even a punk like durocher
Actually it was only a few weeks ago that Urias hit Jake Cronenworth and broke his finger. At the time he was one of the Padres steadiest hitters. Him being out of the lineup for several days contributed to their disastrous slide out of the wildcard race.
