The Dodgers have nine games remaining in the 2021 regular season to catch – and pass – the National League West first-place San Francisco Giants (who also have nine regular-season games remaining), if they hope to avoid being a Wild Card team. As we’ve mentioned numerous times here (ad nauseam), to do so, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts‘ team absolutely must – without exception – win on days that the Giants lose; and they don’t lose many.
“It was a big one,” Roberts said of his team’s exciting 7-5 come-from-behind win over the Colorado Rockies on Max Muncy‘s dramatic 10th-inning / two-run leadoff home run at Coors Field on Thursday, while the Giants lost to the San Diego Padres – also in 10 innings – at Petco Park. “We always say in baseball ‘every win is big,’ but looking at where we’re at, nine games left, this was a big one.”
With the win, coupled with the Giants’ loss, the Dodgers are – once again – one game back of San Francisco in the NL West standings with, as noted, nine to go.
Don’t stop now, boys. It’s nine to get two.
Play Ball!

Actually, they have ten to get two in order to avoid the wildcard.
I doesn’t look like the Giants will lose 3 games in the final 7. It’s time to line up Scherzer for the WC game and hope the offense doesn’t lay a goose egg.
That’s how I see it as well, RD.
Shame Luke Raley was sent down. After showing his awesome power with a 479 ft homer. Must be discouraging to these guys being shuttled up and down. Hope they don’t ruin him like they did Matt Beatty. But, hey with Cody Belly-up-inger ready to go. Broken ribs and broken swing. Roberts will stick him in there to gobble up any rallies the Dodgers might start. He is the 2nd worse hitter in all of baseball. It is much too late this year to fix him. At least with Raley, if he connects it is long gone.
