Dodgers Recall Vesia From OKC, Place Nelson on IL

The Dodgers recalled left-handed pitcher Alex Vesia from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed right-handed pitcher Jimmy Nelson on the 10-day injured list with a left lumbar strain, retroactive July 7. 

Vesia, 25, has appeared in nine games for Oklahoma City, allowing one run in 9.0 innings with 19 strikeouts. He has appeared in 10 games for the Dodgers this season, going 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA (7 ER/10.2 IP) and 16 strikeouts against 11 walks. The Northern California native was acquired from the Marlins along with minor leaguer Kyle Hurt in exchange for Dylan Floro. In 52 career minor league games, he has posted a 1.62 ERA (18 ER/100.0IP) and 138 strikeouts.

Nelson, 32, will head to the injured list for the second time this season. He is 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA (6 ER/27.0 IP) and 41 strikeouts in the 25 games in which he has appeared this season for the Dodgers. He is in his seventh Major League season with a combined 34-47 record and 4.13 ERA (303 ER/660.1 IP) in 144 games (108 starts). He was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Alabama.
