Dodgers manager Dave Roberts utilizes a defensive shift … a lot.
Why?
Because he can.
But if it were up to the seven-year Dodgers skipper, he would rather see the shift be banned from the game – permanently.
“I think that I’ve always kind of been on the side of allowing for shifts, but the more I think about it, the more I see it when a guy rides out a change-up and shallow right field, and it’s a L-4 [linedrive to second base] and a one-hop pull hit up the middle, and I just think that sometimes I think that we end up kind of talking out of both sides of our mouth as far as trying to promote offense, but allowing for other things that kind of suppress it,” Roberts answered when asked what his thoughts were on the shift. “So I guess if I had my druthers, I would do away with it – two guys on either side or no one can get on the grass; you gotta be on the dirt if you are going to have three guys on the other side of the infield,” he added.
Who knew, right?

The Dodgers sure ran into trouble when they ran into Darvish & Snell this time around. Let’s hope they find some weaknesses in Musgrove. SD’s bullpen isn’t any easier.
I don’t care for the shift either, Joe
#smh
I really have no opinion, one way or the other. The hitters just have to deal with them until some changes are made.
