Urías – Like Fine Wine

Just as he has been throughout the 2021 season, 24-year-old Dodgers left-hander Julio Urías was once again outstanding in his MLB-leading ninth start of the season on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.

“I think with Julio now it’s he’s a lot more efficient with his secondary, whether it’s the change-up or the slurve that he throws, he can strike that to get ahead to get back into a count, and he’s just not as predictable,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, after his team’s 9-1 pounding of the Arizona Diamondbacks. “So I think that being able to command the fastball, be more efficient with the breaking stuff allows him to go deeper in games and really just helps us out as a ball club.”

In his brilliant 6.2 innings of work, Urías allowed one run on three hits, with no walks and eight strikeouts, to lower his season ERA to 3.04 and his strikeout total to 60 – second most on the team to Trevor Bauer‘s 77.

When asked if Urías’ tender age was still a concern for him and the rest of the coaching staff – and the entire team, Roberts was rather clear in his answer:

“I don’t care about age, he is as good as there is.”
