WHAT:
The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF), in partnership with Pull Up Neighbor, will continue its 10-stop tour and support of communities of color still devastated by the COVID-19 with three straight days of distributions in East Los Angeles, South Los Angeles, and Wilmington. Events held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will provide direct resources, otherwise inaccessible, to underserved communities, including but not limited to food boxes provided by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, hygiene essentials, water, books, Dodger items, face masks donated by Elixir Therapeutics and vaccine information to encourage residents to get their shots.
The tour has already visited the City of Compton at Gonzales Park, the YMCA in Van Nuys and Maywood, and Rancho Cucamonga at Quakes Stadium and will continue with “drive thru” stops in Long Beach, Watts, and Inglewood during May and June. Tour partners include the City of Compton, Compton Advocates, YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, Khmer Girls in Action, ThinkWatts, LAUSD South Mid-City CommUNITY of Schools, and Inglewood Unified School District.

MISC:
Through a social justice lens, LADF funds proven programs that level the playing field and invest in on-the-ground solutions driven by the communities it serves. LADF Gives, its annual grantmaking program, continues to offer nonprofits support to address root causes of our city’s most pressing problems. This tour is made possible by a $50,000 grant awarded to Pull Up Neighbor (PUN), a Black-led community response nonprofit organization, focused on the health and well-being of minorities and vulnerable communities. PUN provides immediate and direct assistance to communities in need across the country and has visited over 51 cities in an 8-month period to directly impact underserved communities. They have been able to serve over 115,000 people, distributing 500,000 pounds of food and fresh produce, and 525,000 PPE items.
The Dodgers and Dodgers Foundation launched joint relief efforts in early April 2020 and have worked with Dodger partners, corporate sponsors, volunteers, and nonprofits to provide 3.8 million meals and $2.2 million in in-kind donations of food, water, hygiene necessities, gift cards and Dodger products to vulnerable populations who are experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, lack of basic needs and significant anxiety.
LADF’s Pull Up Neighbor Tour is a part of Champions in the Community, a partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers, designed to align with the start of the baseball season.
