It’s one of those things that those in the Vin Scully Press Box at Dodger Stadium on days that Dodgers ace and future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw pitches are (very) blessed to witness – and it has nothing to do with the just-concluded game.
…or with baseball itself.
Following those rare day games – win or lose – and after fans have cleared out of the stadium, the 33-year-old Dallas, TX native, three-time Cy Young Award winner, eight-time All-Star, five-time ERA Title winner, former NL MVP, former Triple Crown winner, former Major League Player of the Year, former Gold Glove winner and World Series Champion can be spotted walking – and occasionally running – on the field with his daughter Cali and oldest son Charley doing the single most important thing in the world – a father sharing precious time with his young children. And if it doesn’t make you smile, you might want to seek professional help.
“Last year, we missed it, the kiddos not being able to come to the field and stuff,” Kershaw said when asked about it during his postgame Zoom media session and after his stroll on the field with his two oldest kids. “As you get older, you realize that’s a pretty special part that you get to share with your family and with your kiddos. They could just run around out there all day. So any chance I get a chance to do that with them, I’m going to take it, because it’s pretty special.”
For true fans of the game, there aren’t many things bigger than baseball, but there are none bigger than this.
Well done, dad.
