Although the sample size is ridiculously small at only two MLB seasons, Fernando Tatís Jr. has a career slash line of .301/.374/.582/.956 with 39 home runs and 98 RBI.
But here’s the thing – he turned 22 years old on January 2.
Fortunately (if you can call it that), he has only slashed .239/.289/.437/.726 with four home runs and nine RBI against the Dodgers over those two seasons, so there’s that.
But here’s the other thing – the Dodgers are going to see a lot of the San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic native and son of 11-year MLB veteran infielder Fernando Tatís over the next 14 seasons.
…a lot.
On Wednesday afternoon, it was widely reported that the San Diego Padres had signed their young shortstop to a 14-year/$340 million contract extension, the third-largest in MLB history behind only Dodgers superstar outfielder Mookie Betts (12-years/$365 million) and Angels superstar outfielder Mike Trout (10 years/$360 million). It is, however, the longest contract in MLB history and will take him through the 2035 (age 36) season.
As is the case with any long-term/high-dollar contract, the Padres are betting (counting) on many years of All-Star-caliber production from “El Niño.” They are also betting (counting) on him staying healthy – especially towards the backend of the deal.
As for Tatis Jr., it’s ‘Money in the Bank‘ … guaranteed.

Dodgers are in for a dog fight for the division for the foreseeable future. I think having top notch competition will be good for LA. After Bauer signing a lot of pundits think the Dodgers will still take the division… It’s their job to make educated guesses, but it would be silly to discount Padres too much. They had a lot of swagger last year, and they’re going to be itching for every rematch with the Dodgers.
It looks like the Padres found their man. Him and Machardo will be making things difficult for the Dodgers for a long time, but I think we’re up for the challenge.
@Dodgers Let’s hope Tat-tis Jr can get tattooed by the Dodgers this year, o’fer ???
Padres have to tone down their rhetoric.machado is a butt head and I hope he doesn’t turn Tattoos into a pu nk like he is. A healthy rivalry is a great thing but the
Finger pointing and name calling borders on the rediculous.
1000% SPOT ON!
