When it was reported last week that popular Dodgers free-agent utility infielder/outfielder Kiké Hernández had signed a two-year/$14 million contract with the Boston Red Sox, there was a (very) noticeable outcry of disappointment and sadness by Dodgers fans on social media. But the simple (and painful) truth is that regardless of his popularity among fans during his six seasons with the Dodgers, he had a less-than-stellar slash line of .240 / .312 / .425 / .737; certainly not the worst in the league, but with some (very) talented prospects down on the farm, he was occupying a valuable roster spot.
No sooner had the initial shock and pain of Kiké’s departure (somewhat) tapered off, when, on Thursday evening, the 29-year-old San Juan, Puerto Rico native and sixth-round draft pick by the Houston Astros in 2009 out of the American Military Academy in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, posted this heartfelt message and video on Twitter:
Whether you were a Kiké fan or not, it is difficult – if not impossible – not to appreciate his message and not wish him the best moving forward.
Godspeed to you, Kiké!

@Dodgers I’ll never forget the NLCS game tying HR in Game 7. All the best to him in Boston.
Agree 100 percent!
I’ll never forget the 3 HRs (!-!-!) in the clinching game of the 2017 LCS against Chicago.
👍👊✋
It’s hard to forget a guy who gives you 6 years of his career. He’ll be missed.
