Although he may not be the free-agent Dodger that fans were hoping their beloved team would re-sign, it was certainly a step in the right direction for their team to repeat as the champions of baseball when, on Tuesday afternoon, the Dodgers announced that they had re-signed free-agent right-handed reliever Blake Treinen to a two-year deal for a reported $17.5 million that includes a club option for $8 million or a $1.5 million buyout for the 2023 season.
The 32-year-old Wichita, KS native, and seventh-round draft pick in 2011 by the Oakland Athletics out of South Dakota State University was a key piece in the Dodgers first World Series title in 32 years, posting a 3-3 record and 3.86 ERA over his combined 25.2 innings pitched. He recorded a 4.76 ERA in his 11 postseason appearances and earned a save in Game 5 of the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Barring the unforeseen, Treinen figures to join 22-year-old phenom right-hander Brusdar Graterol as set-up men for Dodgers veteran All-Star closer Kenley Jansen, who himself becomes a free agent following the 2021 season.
Welcome back, Blake!
Play Ball!

Solid move! Probably half a much as Hendricks will get. If he pitches like he did last season it will be fine. If he improves, it will be a bargain. His experience and composure showed in the playoffs. Sure, he gave up some runs, so the ERA is ugly, but he got the job done. LA is reportedly still interest in Hand too according to MLBtraderumors. He and Treinen would be great to bulk up the bullpen!
Nice and we’ll needed move.
Need him without a doubt.
Now finish the pen.
