Dodgers Acquire Corey Knebel from Brewers

The Dodgers have acquired right-hander Corey Knebel from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The 29-year-old Denton, TX native was non-tendered by the Brewers on Wednesday, after spending the last five seasons in Milwaukee. During those five seasons, he posted a 6-11 record with a 3.20 ERA (81 earned runs in 227.2 innings pitched), with 325 strikeouts in 231 appearances, all in relief.

During his 2017 All-Star season, Knebel pitched in a career-high 76 games, going 1-4 with 39 saves and a 1.78 ERA (15 earned runs in 76.0 innings pitched), with 120 strikeouts. He pitched in 15 games last season, going 0-0 with a 6.08 ERA in 13.1 innings of work, with 15 strikeouts; this after returning from a torn UCL in his throwing arm, which caused him to miss the entire 2019 season.

Knebel was originally drafted in the first round (39th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Texas.

Typical Friedman bargain basement shopping. low cost as the contract will no doubt be a arbitration, non-guaranteed deal that team can terminate any time during spring training for a prorated cost. If healthy, Knebel is an improvement over Baez. Still need another LH’er along with Hendriks, or Treinen, or ???
