Code Red! Code Red!
No, there is no fire in a hospital, and no firefighters have been dispatched to the scene. Rather than an emergency, as of November 12, 2020, a new – and perfect – sponsorship was born.
Twenty-three-year-old Dodgers right-hander and World Series Champion Dustin May has a new sponsorship for the offseason – Mountain Dew’s Code Red.
The popular soft drink made it’s debut in 2001, making it one of parent company PepsiCo’s newest flavor releases since 1988; nine years before the Justin, Texas native and Dodgers third-round draft pick in 2016 out of Northwest High School in Justin, TX was born. It is the perfect sponsorship, considering May’s nicknames is “Code Red;” this because of his incredible mane of flowing red hair.
May even has his (appropriate) nickname stitched into his Rawlings Pro Preferred PROS208-9KB model glove, which he wore during his MLB debut on August 2, 2019, against the San Diego Padres.
Like many pro athletes today, May turned to social media to announce his new sponsorship deal in a short Twitter video (GIF) of him throwing back a bottle of the refreshing soft drink himself and cases of Code Red stacked high on his counter.
One would think that May would be receiving sponsorship dollars (and products) from some type of hair products company. With such a full head of gorgeous red locks, it would seem like a great business move for one of their product lines.
Although details are scarce about what May’s sponsorship with Mountain Dew (PepsiCo) includes, it is probably safe to say that he will never have to purchase a bottle (or can) of Code Red for the rest of his life. And as a World Series Champion (and World Series-winning pitcher), he will undoubtedly have additional sponsorship opportunities in his bright (red) future. It is also quite likely that we may soon see Code Red in Code Red television commercials, or perhaps on a limited edition bottle (or can) of the tasty soft drink.
As the off-season continues, we can expect to see more World Series Champion Dodger players linked to a wide variety of products (and appearing in commercials) with sponsorship agreements. After all, they are more than just your average baseball players. They are the 2020 World Series Champions.
So grab a bottle of refreshing Code Red Mountain Dew and kick back, while we wait in anticipation of a new baseball season in 2021.

@Dodgers ♥️
Congrats, Mom!!!
I think Dustin would fit right in with Troy Palamalu and Patrick Mahomes on the Head And Shoulders commercials!
Although Mountain Dew is one of my favorite drinks, I don’t recall ever drinking “Code Red”. I’ve been looking for it.
