Although it’s only been five Spring Training-2 intrasquad games, it is impossible to say that 26-year-old Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager is not absolutely dialed in.
All the Charlotte, North Carolina native and Dodgers first-round draft pick in 2012 out of Northwest Cabarrus High School in Concord, NC has done in the last three televised intrasquad games is collect six hits, including three doubles.
But with Opening Day now less than two weeks away and with Seager locked in, does Dodgers manager Dave Roberts bubble-wrap him to avoid potential injury or does he keep running his two-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger and 2016 National League Rookie of the Year shortstop out there in what basically amounts to non-essential practice games?
“You know what? I’m not going to say that thought didn’t cross my mind,” Roberts said, when asked that very question during Friday’s Zoom press conference. “But no, we’re going to keep running him out there.”
The Dodgers skipper went on to say that Seager looks great in every aspect thus far.
“Corey, he’s in a great place physically, mentally and mechanically and it’s good to see,” Roberts said. “And so, we still need to keep building up the legs as far as innings played and still taking on at-bats.”
Is it July 23rd yet?
