Most of us went to sleep Tuesday night chuckling to ourselves over Dodgers right-hander Joe Kelly‘s now-infamous ‘oopsie’ pitch that buzzed the tower of Astros third baseman Alex Bregman in the bottom of the sixth inning in the Dodgers eventual 5-2 win over the confirmed-cheating Houston Astros.
But truth be told, a lot else happened at Minute Maid Park on Tuesday night.
Like most Dodger fans, I keep seeing Kelly’s pouty face after he struck out Astros shortstop Carlos Correa to end the sixth, thereby causing both benches to clear. But does anyone remember how the game looked in the fourth inning?
What we all seem to have forgotten about is Corey Seager‘s game-saving diving catch in the fourth inning.
Dodgers left-hander Adam Kolarek had relieved Dodgers starter Walker Buehler (making his 2020 season debut) with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Astros leading 2-0. The Astros had two men on base when one-time Dodger Josh Reddick stepped up to the plate. Reddick absolutely smoked Kolarek’s 1-0 / 87.4-MPH slider that was clearly headed for the wall in left/center field, but for an incredible (and seemingly impossible) diving catch by Seager to end the inning; thus preventing the Astros from tacking two additional runs to their (then) 2-0 lead.
While Joe Kelly may be getting all of the (well-deserved) accolades for the Dodgers eventual 5-2 win, things might have been a whole lot different were it not for Corey Seager – the unsung hero of Tuesday night’s game.

I was surprised that Kolarek did not get credit with the win, since he was the pitcher when the Dodgers took the lead.
My man Seager. I remember when he first came up and Adrian Gonzalez said publicly that he had the talent to be in the HOF. Some fans wanted to write him off because of injuries, but when he was healthy he was one of the best SS in MLB.
