I have been waiting to hear those words for months, ever since MLB abruptly shutdown Spring Training 2020 in order to protect fans, players, coaches, umpires, support staff, et al. from the COVID-19 pandemic. But with a season that will be unilaterally imposed upon players by MLB czar Rob Manfred, the words “play ball” should stick in the back of the throat, embarrassingly whispered, recognizing the failure of owners and the union to reach agreement on a shortened season.
The 2020 season will be recorded as one of the darkest in MLB history. A season of acrimony, distrust, and failed leadership, played during a global pandemic. While more than 115,000 (and counting) have died in the United States from COVID-19, and more than 20 million Americans are unemployed as a result of the virus, MLB billionaire owners and MLB millionaire players are unable to reach a consensus on how to safely play a shortened season. Absolutely shameful!
I am angry! Angry at Manfred, MLB Players Association president Tony Clark, the greedy owners, and the greedy players for taking the joy out of professional baseball. Collectively, they had the wherewithal to do the right thing for everyone involved in a one-off season that will hopefully never be repeated. Instead of working together to safely play the 2020 season, they chose conflict, name-calling, threats, and bad faith bargaining.
MLB and the Players Association – leadership at its worst. You should all be embarrassed.

Never thought I would miss Bud Selig, but I do.
Ain’t that the truth!
@Dodgers Very true-well said. 😢
In a perfect business environment we would see 60 games played with a 50 million payroll per team. Max salary 3 mil for 60 games and 500k for the young guys.
If you don’t want to play stay home no harm done you play in 2021.
Dodgers would have rotation of
May Gonsolin Urias Stripling.
Plenty of arms for the pen.
Fresh prince and Barnes Maybe Muncy, surely CT3, Kiki, plenty of young players for sure.
It would be exciting and surely fill the gap with no sports around.
With only TV and no fans, no concessions etc only TV revenue , you can have baseball without the owners going broke.
I wonder if I will get a refund for the whole season I have paid for at MLB TV. Does anyone know?
I would certainly ask for a refund, at least a partial one. We did not renew our MLB Extra Innings service from Spectrum, waiting until we knew when/if there would be a season.
.Thank you Jesse. I will do that.
