Chances are exceptionally good that if you have attended a professional sporting event over the past 80 years – especially on an Opening Day or on a National Holiday – you have witnessed a military flyover. Now I don’t know about you, but for me, these are very emotional moments that make me proud to be an American and grateful to be living in the greatest country on the planet.

But with the current – and deadly – coronavirus having shut down our entire country (and the world, for that matter), Americans are being denied these proud moments at ballparks from sea to shining sea.

…sort of.

Although there is talk that our National Pastime could resume as early as July 1 (this despite warnings from many of our nation’s top medical experts that we haven’t even reached the halfway point of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic yet), our military leaders have turned their focus from honoring Major League Baseball (et al.) with military flyovers to honor the brave men and women of our nation’s healthcare system at medical centers, regional hospitals, and clinics across the country.

Although the U.S. Navy’s extremely popular Blue Angels have yet to make an appearance in the skies above Southern California hospitals and clinics, one has to believe that they will at some point during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

To the brave men and women of our nation’s armed forces, and especially to our brave healthcare professionals, thank you … Just thank you.
