From their Monday through Thursday night games, to their stadium giveaway games on Fridays, to their firework nights on Saturdays, all Rancho Cucamonga Quakes night home games and all Sunday home day games have, for the most part, always had start times of 7:05 p.m. and a 2:05 p.m. respectively.
Until now.
On Tuesday, the popular Dodgers Advanced Single-A affiliate tweeted that beginning in 2020, all Saturday night home games (which include postgame fireworks) will begin at 6:05 p.m., all second-half Sunday home games at 5:05 p.m., and 10:35 a.m. Wednesday morning home games on April 15, May 13 and July 22, 2020.
Although the former 7:05 p.m. Friday home games allowed fans with 9 to 5 jobs to run home, change clothes, grab a bite and pick up other family members and friends, the games occasionally ended past the 10 p.m. fireworks curfew which, out of courtesy to nearby residents, had to be canceled. With an earlier start time, these games will now (probably) end around nine-ish, which nearby residents might be more forgiving of.
Additionally, the Quakes have announced a change of second-half Sunday game times to 5:05 pm. They previously did this in past years, as did the rest of the California League, but for the past few years, have kept all Sunday home games at 2:05. This reversion will not only benefit the fans by giving them more time to get to the park, but it will also allow for a larger selection of shaded seats. The temperature will also be a little cooler, benefiting the fans, employees, players … and, of course, Tremor and Aftershock.
These are small changes, but they definitely sound like good ones. And who knows, the 6:05 start time could potentially apply for all night games, as it would allow fans to see an entire game while also getting home at a decent hour to go to work the next morning. It would also allow families with young children to attend more games since they wouldn’t have to be out so late.
Minor League Baseball has always been fan-friendly for everyone, but now the Quakes are offering an even friendlier schedule. So come April, check your calendars for an open Saturday or Sunday and come see what Quakes baseball is all about.
