Not sure why so many Dodgers fans are worked-up that the National League Division Series (NLDS) is going the full five games. Wasn’t this expected when everyone was clamoring for the Dodgers to finish with the best record in the NL and secure home-field advantage? The only scenario when home-field advantage makes a difference is in game five.
Optimism should abound amongst Dodgers fans for a Dodgers win, advancing to the National League Championship Series, and then the World Series. This isn’t a team that needed help from other teams, or a Bobby Thompson home run (apologies to the Giants reference) to squeak into the playoffs, the second-place Arizona Diamondback finished 21-games behind the Dodgers! The Nationals 2019 record was 13-games behind the Dodgers!
No more handwringing, no shouts that the sky-is-falling; this is the 2019 Dodgers! A juggernaut of a team that is locked-on to the ultimate goal and prize:
- The team has the best offense and pitching in the National League.
- Walker Buehler is well-rested, with a bulldog mentality, and the pitching arsenal to make any Major League hitter shudder.
- At home this season the Dodgers have won 73.5% of their games.
Relax and enjoy the game. The Dodgers have got this!

Well, that about covers the postseason pitching yips. Any future comparisons of Kershaw to Koufax will be laughed into oblivion. Yeah, sure it was a team effort, blah blah. Doc made some bonehead moves, blah blah blah. Kershaw should have seen a sports psychologist five years ago. It’s too late now.
What a waste of a perfectly fine season of Dodger baseball.
Painful loss last night for fans, more so for the players.
Kershaw’s performance obviously did not help anything. But the real crime was the Dodgers offense. They were horrible through most of the series. Need to score more runs and back the pitching performances more consistently. After Kike hit his HR, where was the offense? This is a team loss for sure, much more than a Kershaw loss.
Very good point, but I believe that Dave Roberts bullpen decisions once again betrayed the Dodgers team. More about that in upcoming article.
